JENKEM GOES TO THE AGENDA TRADESHOW 2014

Unless you work in skateboarding, you might be asking yourself, what the fuck is Agenda? Well, it’s basically a place where many industry people meet to check out new products, high five each other, place orders, swap business cards, smile…etc. All those business related activities that keep the skateboard industry alive, healthy and moving. This year we attended and did just that, along with plenty of random shit documented below. Before heading to the show, I bothered Jeremy Klein [owner of Hookups] to come hang out for Korean food. Jeremy…

ESCAPE THE WINTER & COME TO SKATE NIGHT

There are basically no places to skate in New York in the winter, so when KCDC Skateshop hit us up to be involved with their weekly Skate Night series again with NY Skateboarding, Zoo York and Western Digital, it was a no brainer. This year, we’re crashing Coda’s big warehouse in Queens, equipped with a full blown DIY indoor skatepark. The spot has 3 different miniramps (yes, 3), a street section that rivals that of any good skatepark and free drinks for everyone thanks to PBR and Redbull. The only…

ESCAPE THE WINTER & COME TO SKATE NIGHT PT. 2

photo: chris miller / nyskateboarding.com I’m sure we both agree on something – you are sick of reading about the winter, and we are sick of writing about it. It must be weird to live somewhere constantly warm, and just listen to people complain about snow on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter for about 5 months. Maybe I’ll move to Cali and eventually find out what that’s like. I’m just afraid of going soft. Not “going soft” like limp dick, heat of the moment soft. I’m talking about getting too used…

SKATING AGAINST ALS WITH #ROLLFORROB

When Rob Pontes was diagnosed with ALS the guys over at REAL Skateboards did a lot more than just another ice bucket challenge to help their good friend pay for the outrageous medical costs he needs to fight the disease. They actually threw a skate event and made special decks, shirts and gear to help raise money for Rob to beat it. ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease, meaning that after only a few months of symptoms Rob went from popping nollie heels to having to have a friend piggyback…

WHAT THE VANS PROPELLER PREMIERE LOOKED LIKE IN NYC

If Vans decides to make a full length skate video, well, you go fucking watch it. Last weekend, Vans premiered “Propeller” to a packed house in swanky midtown NYC. We were there to watch the video and get as many drinks and tacos as possible. Vans really turned it up for the premiere: free food and booze for the 8 o’clock watchers, and then a fancy after party at a hotel rooftop bar that no skater besides Tony Hawk could normally afford to drink at. Anyways, check out some of…

WE THREW A PARTY WITH CLICHE & SEAN CLIVER AT MAX FISH

I know you’re probably sick of hearing about it by now but if for some reason you were logged off of the internet this week, we just released a board with Cliche skateboards and legendary artist Sean Cliver. To celebrate the successful peace treaty Jenkem brokered between the United States, Russia, and North Korea (and the release of the Sean Cliver illustrated Cliché deck that portrays that shit-fueled negotiation), we threw a party at Max Fish in Manhattan’s Lower East Side. Despite the rainy weather, the turn out was strong…

AVOID FROSTBITE AND JOIN US AT SKATE NIGHT

You’ve heard us say it a million times already, but skateboarding on the east coast in the winter sucks. Even in NY, there are practically no indoor skate parks and skating outside in anything under 35 degrees really isn’t that fun. So when KCDC Skateshop hit us up to be involved with their weekly Skate Night series again with NY Skateboarding, HUF and KR3W, it was a no brainer. We’ve been involved for the last 2 years, and we’re happy to be able to do more local stuff and get…

HUF & SLAP THREW A PHOTO SHOW FOR THE LAST SKATE NIGHT

Temperatures in New York are hitting the 60s this week, and life is coming back into the city. Days are getting longer, clothes are getting lighter, and people are looking for some action. It seems like our “winter” was cut shorter than everybody had expected but we’re not complaining, since we won’t have to bundle up in two jackets just to go skate a curb with pebbles and salt around it. Regardless of the unusually-bearable weather we’ve had this season, Skate Nights kept up with business as usual over at…

NAS PERFORMED AT VANS’ 50 YEAR ANNIVERSARY

If you’ve watched a lot of live music before, you know that seeing rappers live usually isn’t that great. Maybe I’m kooking myself here, but when I think about all the rap shows I’ve been to, it’s usually a big coin toss as to whether or not the performance will live up to the hype. For example, I’ve seen Slick Rick come on and do a great hour long set (and give out his # to cute girls on the SUNY Purchase campus), but I’ve also seen ASAP Rocky perform…
